Ogotun- Ekiti is located in the Southwestern part of the Fountain of Knowledge, Ekiti State of Nigeria and one of three (3) towns that constitute Ekiti South West Local Government of the State.
It is situated at the boundary of Ondo and Osun State. Ogotun is bounded in the south by Ikeji-Ile in Osun State, in the west by Ipole-Iloro in Ekiti West Local Government area, in the East by Ikeji Arakeji in Osun state in the North by Igbara-Odo-Ekiti in Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government area and in the North East by Ikogosi-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government area.
Ogotun Ekiti is within the tropic with a warm wet climate, the temperature is between 24oc -27oC hence the town is moderately hot while the average rainfall is between 115cm and 1550cm annually
All surrounding towns both immediate and those that are a bit far are linked with Ogotun by good road network, the road from Ipetu-Ijesa via Ikeji-Ile links Ogotun with Ilesa and other towns in Osun and Oyo states and is the shortest road to Ekiti from the south, the road to Ikeji-Arakeji via Olorioko, the road that links Ogotun with other towns are motorable , under this condition ,it is not an overstatement but an accurate one to say that Ogotun is a nodal town.
Ogotun is situated in a well-drained valley between mounts Oriji to the west and Agbe to the East. There are rivers which include Owena; the largest, Etio, Olotun-un, Alura, and some lakes and ponds such as Alaika, Eguru, Agandi, Elegudu and Osun. All these provide the people of the town with regular water supply throughout the year apart from the pipe borne water, and the boreholes sunk around the nooks and crannies of the town.
There are two seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season is between mid-November and February while the raining season last from march to early November with an average annual rainfall of 115cm to 150cm.
Harvesting of food crops is done in the early part of dry season while seed bed preparation takes place later planting soil treatment and seed treatment and seed treatment are done during the dry season. The town is endowed with very good vegetation and forest resources include timber and palm trees. Being in the forest region, the trees cut timber in large and commercial qualities include Iroko, Udi, Omo, mahogany, Oganwo and a host of others
Since it is the climate of the area that dictates the occupation of the people and the town is blessed with good vegetation, the men are mostly farmers who cultivate both cash and food crops like cocoa, kolanut, palm produce, yam, cassava, maize, beans, and plantain. Men’s other occupations include the normal hand works like other places, artisans, and civil servants, The women combine trading with their mat weaving. The educated ones both male and female engage in various rudimentary works.
The streets in the town are motorably adjacent to one another, this makes it easy for both vehicles and pedestrians to move from one part of the town to another. The social amenities in the town have improved the socio economic life of the people of the town.
